CoderDojo Wexford is open to all individuals who would like to join as part of our team. We have an admin team and a mentoring team.
You can become a mentor even if you are not a professional coder, and if you are even better!
If you are inspired to learn, you could help us with the easy to learn courses; such as Scratch, App Inventor or simple robotics.
At Coderdojo we operate a child-led learning ethos. If a child is having difficulty with something, we remind them that “before you ask me, ask three”. This means that each child must turn to the other kids present to seek help. If possible, then use the HELP menu in the application where the problem is and finally if possible, check for solutions online. Only after the child cannot find a solution using the ask three method, should the mentor step in. Coderdojo is about providing the physical space in friendly, safe environment so that the children can learn and expand their imaginations. Many of the kids will be working on their Coolest Projects Awards submissions.
All mentors and volunteers must be vetted and trained in Child Protection. Until you are, you can attend but will not be made a mentor / volunteer.
Sometimes, we meet individuals who are excellent coders but have no experience teaching. This is where the Coderdojo Foundation helps! There are a host of resources available for whatever your forté might be…
To express your interest in becoming a mentor please email us and we will help you get started!
